One of the most thrilling aspects of writing is that fresh journal feeling. Opening up to a clean page and setting pen to paper is flush with potential.
Each program season, Write Around Portland provides participants with everything they need to participate in our writing groups: snacks, pens, time, and a new journal. Our volunteer facilitators distribute journals during the first session of the season and participants are excited to select the journal that suits them best. This journal becomes their companion throughout the 6-10 weeks that they write with us. It holds space for their healing and transformation as it collects their truths in response to prompts provided by the facilitator.
Now, here is where YOU come in… it’s the time of year when we restock our journal cabinet and we need your help! In preparation for our fall writing groups, we need to collect nearly 300 journals for our new participants.
As you are out doing back-to-school shopping, could you grab a couple of notebooks for us? Or when you’re picking up a new novel at Annie Bloom’s Books or Broadway Books, would you purchase a journal or two from their stock to donate to us?
Our annual journal drive runs from August 1 to September 15. You can drop your donations off at Annie Bloom’s Books, Broadway Books, or contact the office to set up a time to stop by. Journals need to be clean, unused and blank. This is also a great opportunity to clear extra notebooks off your shelves at home!
If you’re short on time, you can make a monetary donation and we’ll go shopping for you!
