Volunteer opportunities with Write Around Portland

Volunteers play an incredibly important role at Write Around Portland, supporting every aspect of our work including delivering our healing creative writing programs firsthand. We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and ages (including youth under 16 with guardian support) who want to support our programming and are aligned with our values. For the safety of our community, we ask all in-person volunteers to agree to Write Around Portland’s COVID-19 policy.

  2. Attend an Info Session (we’ll be in touch to schedule after we receive your application)
  3. Watch for emails from our Volunteer Coordinator to sign up for volunteer opportunities!

Volunteer Roles

Program Intern – Now Accepting Applications for fall 2024

Shifts: Typically 6-10 hours/week scheduled during office hours (Mond-Thurs 9am-5pm)

The Fall Program Intern supports our acclaimed creative writing program through administrative tasks, data entry, archive work, design work, participant support, anthology production, and writing program development. School credit and/or work study are possible depending on educational program. Transit assistance is available.

Writing Group Facilitator

Shifts: Typically weekday afternoons or evenings

Facilitators go through an application and interview process. Learn more about it by clicking the button below.

Shifts: Typically weekday afternoons or evenings

Scribes support writers who have trouble holding a pen. Background check required.

Book Production Volunteers

Shifts: Weekdays and weekday evenings, typically in April and November

These volunteers type, select, and order pieces submitted for our anthologies.

Volunteers help set up, clean up, and operate our fundraisers, tabling events, and readings.

Shifts: Weekdays and weekday evenings throughout the year

Office volunteers help us with a variety of administrative tasks, including data entry, mailings, materials preparation, and more. Individual daytime shifts and group evening shifts available.
