Participants are finding our programs healing, supportive, and community-building, according to recent data collected from our fall 2025 and spring 2026 program seasons.
In our programs, participants are invited to put pen to paper in intentionally created spaces where their words can be welcomed and listened to without judgment. A few of the key intended outcomes of our writing groups are: participants will enjoy writing more than they did before the program; feel included and respected; and meet or deepen relationships with others in their community. This new evaluation data supports a clear conclusion: Write Around Portland’s programs are working effectively.
Highlights from the data include:
- 40% more youth participants said they enjoy writing after completing the program than when they began.
- More than 95% of all participants said they felt included and respected in the program
- More than 95% of youth participants completed the program with writing they were proud to share.
We are using what we learn from participants to keep strengthening the program. After each season, staff review feedback and survey data to better understand what is working, where the curriculum should change, and how we can better support healing in our community.
Every season teaches us something new. By listening closely, adapting with care, and centering the voices of our participants, Write Around Portland continues to create welcoming spaces where writers can carry their stories forward.
