Expanding to new locations and sharing creative writing opportunities is a powerful way to strengthen and enrich the entire Portland Metro area. This fall we began a new partnership with Mercy Housing to bring creative writing to their residents in Lake Oswego. Mercy Housing is a nonprofit whose mission is to provide affordable housing in cities across the United States. Write Around Portland is bringing our writing and community building expertise to their Lake Oswego location just southwest of Portland.
When we partner with organizations such as Mercy Housing, we open doors for residents who may not otherwise have access to creative outlets or social connection. Writing groups invite people from different backgrounds to share their stories, listen to others, and discover common ground.
By offering writing programs in new neighborhoods, we foster a sense of belonging, encourage self-expression, and give people a platform to be heard while making creative writing accessible and convenient. This process not only sparks creativity but also helps build friendships and mutual support networks where people already live or access services. The act of writing together creates a space where everyone’s voice matters and where collective growth can flourish. Expanding these programs is an investment in the health and vibrancy of our communities, one story at a time.
