While it is too soon to bring out your favorite wool sweater, it is never too early to start planning your fall writing practice. Write Around Portland will be back in-person at Powell’s, as well as hosting in-person and online Freewrite and Resonate writing circles after our summer hiatus.
All of our programs are open to anyone with a desire to write and no prior experience is needed. Each program is led by a trained facilitator who will establish session structure, provide writing prompts, lead discussions, and walk everyone through strengths-based feedback.
You can peruse our upcoming events and register at writearound.org/events.
If you’re unfamiliar with our paid offerings, here’s a brief overview:
Prompt at Powell’s City of Books
Prompt is an 8-week writing group full of freewriting, listening, and strengths-based feedback, hosted behind-the-scenes at Powell’s City of Books! Portland is a city of book lovers and this offering always sells out fast, so be sure to grab your seat ASAP.
Prompt Online
We will have two Prompt Online opportunities this fall: Writing for Health and Healing and November Novel Writing Month.
You can participate in Prompt Online from the comfort of your own home. This option is great for people who don’t live in Portland or don’t have the time to commute downtown for our sessions at Powell’s. Sessions will be held on Zoom, so a stable internet connection is required.
Freewrite
Freewrites are one-time sessions that will be held in person and online this fall. We have a number of options, each with a different theme so you can drop in for several sessions and never get bored! Virtual sessions are held via Zoom and are 90 minutes long. In-person sessions are two hours long and are held at a location in Portland.
Freewrite is a great opportunity to get your feet wet with our writing model and are ideal for those who aren’t able to commit to a Prompt series this fall.
Resonate: A BIPOC Writing Circle
Resonate is our writing community for BIPOC participants only. Resonate sessions give the opportunity to listen to others’ stories. Many folks return week after week for a space to unwind and decompress. Resonate is an opportunity to build genuine ties and connection within our community of color.
This fall we will host a number of in-person and online Resonate sessions. These sessions are offered FREE through the generosity of Write Around Portland’s donors.
Queer Affinity Writing Circle
Our Queer Affinity Writing Circle is offered in partnership with Sonny’s House of Tattoos & Treasures. It is led by one of our facilitators and follows the same structure with prompts, discussion and strengths-based feedback in a safe and welcoming environment. Open to all LGBTQIA+ participants.
