Summer Reading & Book Release On June 5, 2025

Our FREE summer reading will feature powerful work written by Write Around Portland participants from our spring writing program. This evening is a celebration of our writers, their work and their dedication to writing with their communities. Readers will include adults and veterans in recovery, youth in alternative school settings, adults living with developmental disabilities, youth experiencing homelessness, members of low-income housing and assisted living communities, and many others.

This diverse collection of voices will have their pieces published in our 64th anthology, How We Are Together. The book and its title are reflective of the cultural moment, where local communities are gathering and caring for each other in the face of political and cultural aggression and abandonment. The title also reflects the way our writing groups gather to create, share, and support. At the start of each season, each writing circle creates “group guidelines” to create a safe and welcoming space to write, literally defining how we are together.

Copies of the anthology will be available for purchase at the event for a discounted price of $12 and can be purchased for $16 afterwards here.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and program begins at 6 p.m. at NW Natural at 250 SW Taylor St. in downtown Portland. RSVP here.
